Gamepark newbie v3

   Multimedia
This section of Software is somewhat different than the other because there's really no need for a list of applications--most everything's built-in right out of the box!

The GP2X Linux firmware includes a version of mPlayer, which allows users to play MPEG 4, Divx 3.11,4x,5x, and Higher, and XVID. Best of all, as long as your video is in these formats, there is no need to convert your files regardless of their resolution. The GP2X uses its second processor to resize the videos to fit your GP2X screen in real-time. The player has SMI caption support. Also, when using the TV-Out cable, mPlayer will display the video in full res on your TV (which obviously has a larger resolution than the GP2X).

Also included in the firmware is a music player that supports MP3 and OGG. The music player isn't expecially feature-rich right now, but this will be address with upcoming firmware updates.

Finally, the firmware also includes a text and picture viewer. The text viewer only supports TXT format at the moment; again, this will likely be addressed with later firmware updates. The picture viewer supports JPG, BMP, PCX, GIF, and PNG formats.

As far as homebrew multimedia players, there aren't really that many (there isn't much need, really). Waninkoko has released his own version of mPlayer that has MPG video support. There are some specialty media players that play Amiga modules and things like that. But, yeah, that's about it!
